Welcome to the Peter Reid BMW website!

On this website you will be able to follow the continuing adventures of an e21 323i whose owner (with a lot of help from some very savvy people) has taken this little BMW on a rollercoaster ride from family car to SuperSprint and Tarmac Rally adventures across three States of Australia.

You will be able to access the history of the car, and the work that has been done on it as it has undergone it’s transformation over the years.

You will learn about how to do similar things to your e21, and where to go to find the best help available.

You will be able to see photos of the car in action and read all the specifications that have transformed this e21 323i into an M3 beater !

Climb in. Buckle up. Grab your mouse and enjoy !

December 2008

Well, the e21 now has a new owner. It will be going to Sydney to live, and will be competing in a series of tarmac rallies and perhaps the occasional track day. The new owner of the e21 is keen to maintain the website and continue to tell the story of the little e21 that could.
So I guess you will soon see some changes going on on the site, and a new owner / narrator telling the story from here on.
As my last hurrah, I would like to once again, and finally, express my gratitude to, and admiration of, the team of sponsors and contributors who have made the e21 the very special car it is. Your talents are amazing, your generosity humbling, and your willingness to help out in such a friendly manner has made the whole, highly successful saga possible.

My sincere appreciation to you all. You have been just fantastic, thank you. I shall miss you.

Over and out, Peter.

August 2008

The e21 is now for sale to a good home.
I am now retired, living at the coast, and not pulling in enough Super to continue to support and entertain the car in the manner it has become accustomed to.

If you are interested in purchasing the car, and you pass my scrutiny ( the car will only be sold to someone I trust to look after it ), contact me via the Contact Us page of this website.
Prospective buyers will not be disappointed - the ATA e21 is every bit as good as described on this website, and is fully prepared to go racing again. Just turn the key and win !!!

February 2008

It is official, the car won it’s class in the 2007 NSW BMW Drivers’ Club SuperSprint Championship.

At this stage the plans for the car for 2008 are not clear. One thing we do know is we will not be contesting the SuperSprint Championship in ‘08.

The main focus for 2008 is on participation in events such as the Mount Buller Sprint and Classic Adelaide, although it may well be that we will compete in cars other than the e21, which at this moment is having a well earned rest !

November 2007

WE WON !

Class Champion, 2007 NSW BMW Drivers’ Club Supersprint Championship!

The results from Round 7 of the Championship (Eastern Creek, October 21) are in.

The e21 scored fastest time of the day (1.59.0870), and in doing so took out another ten points in the Championship.

The Club won’t be making any formal declarations as to champions for 2007 until after completion of round 8 (December 9 at Wakefield Park), and I am not a crack mathematician, but no matter which way I look at it, the e21 has won the 2007 Championship.

We have 54 points in the bag. Our nearest competitor has 39. Only ten points are up for grabs at Round 8. All competitors must drop two round point scores. We will be in a position to drop two lots of zero, so will end up with 54 on countback. Our competitor’s lowest scores to date are a 2 and a 5.

Significant stats. from the 2007 Championship for the e21 include:

- of the six rounds we have competed in this year, the e21 has scored top points at 4 rounds

- the e21 has recorded the fastest time in class at every circuit we have competed on this year (Wakefield Park, Oran Park GP circuit, and Eastern Creek) with the exception of Winton where we scored second fastest.

- we have the championship in the bag after competing in just six rounds of the eight round championship.

Such results demonstrate the professionalism and dedication of the team of sponsors who prepare and maintain the car. The e21 has run reliably and very fast all year. Outstanding handling, braking, and reliability are all basic requirements for such a convincing win, and the Championship win is testament to the talents and skills of all the sponsors who have built and maintained the car.

Thank you to all contributors - it has been a tough, year long campaign, and you have never flinched in your support. We set out to win, and we have done it! Brilliant!

Special thanks must go to the crew at Advanced Tech Automotive who replaced the old engine mid way through the year. Off the trailer at Eastern Creek and straight up for maximum points. Fantastic work boys!

October 2007

After round 5 of the championship it was evident that the 250,000 plus ks on the old (original) engine had taken their toll, and it was time to go for a new engine. To stay eligible for tarmac rallies we needed to keep the mechanical fuel injection, but we can run a 2.5 litre motor. So Russell at Advanced Tech Automotive went searching. He found a used M20 525i motor in Melbourne and had it shipped up to Canberra. Russell and Tony swapped the mechanical injection over, did some magic, and have prepared the car, all ready for round 7 of the championship at Eastern Creek - October 21.

Because of the engine change we missed round 6 of the NSW BMW Drivers’ Club Supersprint Championship at Oran Park. However, we still lead the championship with 44 points. Our nearest rival is 11 points behind on 33. There are just two rounds left, so it is very comforting to have the car ready for round 7.

July 2007

After round 5 of the Championship we still lead the points chase in our class. Round 5 was held at Wakefield Park, near Goulburn, on July 22.

We now have 44 points, 13 ahead of our nearest rival. There are 3 rounds left this year, meaning 30 points are still up for grabs. So we will have to keep our heads down and keep pushing hard. The competiton is hotting up !

By the way, I have noticed some pictures of the car have popped up on the Classic Adelaide website. Google ‘Classic Adelaide’, and have a look in the Gallery under ‘King William Street Parade’ and ‘Scrutineering’.

June 2007

We are leading our class in the NSW BMW Drivers’ Club SuperSprint Championship. We have 36 points to our nearest rival’s 24. The latest round was held at Winton, in Northern Victoria. This was our first go at Winton and we came away with second in class. Winton is a great circuit to drive on - a real variety of corners that really challenge the driver.

Many of the guys and gals that run in the Victorian e30 (325i) racing series were entered and our intrepid e21 was stuck in the middle of a pack of them ! We beat a few of them, and they were very curious as to how a stock engined e21 323i could do that ! See other pages on this website to find out.

Next round Wakefield Park on July 22. Ve vish to vin !

January to June 2007

Our focus this year is on trying to win the 2007 NSW BMW Drivers’ Club SuperSprint Championship. So far we have had three rounds - two at Wakefield Park near Goulburn, and one at Oran Park. We are leading our class, with a perfect scorecard to date - 3 lots of ten points and a class record at Wakefield Park !

SuperSrinting is an ideal way to get you and your car onto all the famous Australian race tracks. Join your State car club, enquire about the motorsport activities available, and join in. You can run in stock cars on street tyres - all you need is a helmet, a safe car and a licence you get on line from CAMS as easy as….. At some circuits you can buy a licence on the day.

It is fantastic fun and you can work your way up (as we have ) at a pace that suits you. You will be put on the circuit with other cars that go about the same speed as you do. Contact between cars or crashes are very rare indeed. A very safe way to get your jollies !

2006

We put 2006 aside to mount a campaign to undertake our first tarmac rally. We chose Classic Adelaide. See the Gallery for lots of shots, courtesy of tim@perfectprints.com.au

Nice work Tim !

We needed to build the car up from a SuperSprint runner to one which would pass scrutineering for an FIA sanctioned tarmac rally - some substantial work involved, but all done now.

Classic Adelaide is better than can be described in words. Pricey for a little bittie team, but worth a whole year’s budget - absoutely brill ! I had the good fortune to have a champion navigator ( Brian Foster) in the passenger seat yelling at me for four days of bliss, and we came home second in class.

The little e21 that could !

2005 and previous

Prior to 2005 the car was basically a second family car. I had owned it for about six years, and was wondering what to do with it. I decided to put it on a circuit for a bit of fun.

That little expedition led to participation in three years of SuperSprints with the NSW BMW Drivers’ Club. At first we only went to Wakefield Park (close to Canberra ), then we ventured to Oran Park.

We slowly but surely developed the car until it ran some sensational times at Wakefield Park. Believe me, 1.13.77 in a stock engined e21 323i is an outstanding time - four seconds faster than any other 2.3 litre e21 has ever lapped Wakefield.

In 2005 we placed second in class in the NSW BMW Drivers’ Club Supersprint Championship.
